Christina Aguilera makes the Hollywood Walk of Fame
Christina Aguilera has come a long way since her days on ‘The New Mickey Mouse Club’. Since beginning her pop career in 1999, Aguilera has recorded six hit albums and a number of successful singles, and has now been awarded her own star on the celebrated Hollywood Walk of Fame.
A series of sidewalks along LA’s Hollywood Boulevard, the Walk of Fame serves as a tribute to a long line of famous American actors, singers and performers. Anyone who’s anyone in American entertainment has their own star on the Walk of Fame, and Christina Aguilera has become the latest celebrity to add her name to the list.
Speaking to an assembled army of around one thousand fans, journalists and photographers, Aguilera was gushing with delight as her star was unveiled outside the Hard Rock Café on Hollywood Boulevard. “Oh my goodness! How amazing it is to see all of your fabulous faces,” she said. “This is a huge staple in my life. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.”
Aguilera’s star is the 2,432nd entry on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and was installed on the 15th November 2010, nine days before her first feature film, ‘Burlesque’, appears in movie theatres across the country. Appearing alongside Cher, Aguilera stars as a small-town girl who achieves her dream of appearing in a Los Angeles burlesque club, following a rough childhood spent in a series of foster homes.
The movie marks a departure for the singer, who despite making cameo appearances in ‘Shark Tale’, ‘Shine a Light’ and ‘Get Him to the Greek’, has until now been best known for her musical output. Since the release of her debut album, Aguilera has collected four Grammy awards and chalked up over 46 million worldwide record sales, making her one of the most successful solo female acts of all time. Although Aguilera’s new-found interest in acting is unlikely to end her love of music, it could mark an interesting turn in the 29-year-old’s career in the entertainment industry.
Speaking to Collider.com at the movie’s press day, Aguilera revealed that she has no firm plans for her future career, and is simply going with the flow. “The sky is the limit. I’m just following where life takes me,” she said. “It’s been an incredible journey, thus far, and I know that this next chapter in my life, and doing this movie, opens up a whole new world of opportunity for me. I’m just excited to see where it goes.”
