There’s something about Faith Evans

Having been married to The Notorious B.I.G and a close friend of Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs, Faith Evans is no stranger to controversy. However, the soulful singer is currently whipping up a storm of bad press all by herself at the moment after yet another run in with the law. Despite riding high in the Billboard charts with her latest album, ‘There’s Something About Faith’, Evans was recently arrested and charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, and could be jailed for up to six months if convicted. Coming only six months after the singer was chased up by the IRS for over $360,000 in unpaid taxes, Evans will be hoping that this latest mistake doesn’t derail her career just as it’s getting back on track.

People in camp Evans are hoping that she will be let off with a slap on the wrist, but it’s not inconceivable that Evans could see the inside of a jail cell. Musicians Boy George and R Kelly have both done hard time in recent years, as have actors Wesley Snipes and Lindsay Lohan. If Faith Evans becomes the latest celebrity jailbird, it could scupper her come back plans, possibly for good.

Although this is the first time the singer has been hit with a DUI charge, Evans has run into trouble before while out on the road. In January 2004, the singer and second husband Todd Russaw were stopped by police for an improper vehicle tag violation. Officers then discovered that the pair were carrying both marijuana and cocaine, and duly arrested and charged them. Evans’ defence team negotiated a plea bargain, agreeing that the singer and her husband would attend a 13-week drug rehab program in exchange for a halt on any further prosecution. However, it remains to be seen whether the authorities will be so lenient this time round.

After successfully resurrecting her career this summer following a five year hiatus from recording, Evans will be cursing the timing of her latest brush with the law. Her new album was released on the 5th October, and currently sits at 15th position on the Billboard 200, above names like Lil’ Wayne and Eric Clapton. The singer is also due to star in a new reality TV show, ‘It’s All About Faith’, which documents both her past and her recent return to stardom. Evans may have been courting publicity recently to put her career revival in the music press spotlight, but this recent setback has put her on the front pages for all the wrong reasons.
