International Artist Spotlight: Skrillex

From rock to rap, electronic to dance... Skrillex truly brings it!

Sonny John Moore born January 15, 1988, who is known professionally as Skrillex, is an American producer, DJ, singer and songwriter. After growing up in LA, Sonny Moore joined the American band "From First to Last" as the lead the singer in 2004. Finding success and followers, the group recorded studio albums in 2004 and 2007 when Sonnie decided it was time for a different approach to the music game. He began his first tour as a solo artist in late 2007 and after recruiting a new group, Sonnie began to support other groups and bands to ensure his musical talent was not wasted.

In 2009 he ceased his production for his first solo studio album Bells, and began to work on his Electronic Dance career. Under his new stage name, Skrillex, he released for free on his Myspace, his first EP "My Name is Skrillex" and his career skyrocketed. In 2011 he was nominated for a total of five Grammys and won an astounding three for categories such as, "Best Dance/Electronica Album", "Best Dance Recording", and "Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical". In 2012 he was announced as MTV's Electronic Dance Music Artist of the Year and added to his Grammy total.

He has collaborated with big names such as Boys Noize to form collaborating group Dogblood, Diplo to form the group Jack U, and worked with some A-List talent such as The Game, Ellie Golding, Major Lazer and even Justin Bieber. He has been the brains behind chart topping hits such as "Bangarang", "Dirty Vibes", and "Where Are U Now" (Links Above) and shows no signs of stopping there. With a packed year ahead, Skrillex is making a stop in our back yard at the Ultra Music Festival South Africa as a major headlining performer. If you have not yet, it may be worth the trip to see one of the most sensational artist in his element!
