Justin Bieber – My World 2.0
Since Busted split in 2005, the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus have been flying the teen pop flag pretty much all on their own. However, that’s no indication that the market is disappearing, as Island Records discovered when they launched Justin Bieber’s career last year. After its release in July 2009, the singer’s debut single, ‘One Time’, made the top 30 in ten different countries, all while Bieber was still recording his debut album. The end product, ‘My World’, was unveiled in November that year, and peaked at number five on the Billboard 200. Since then, Bieber has released a glut of singles, and became the first artist ever to have seven singles from a debut record chart on the Billboard Hot 100. Earlier this year, the young singer also released what is considered to be the second part of his first album, ‘My World 2.0’, which remains at number 12 on the Billboard 200 over six months after its initial release.
Bieber was born and raised in Ontario, Canada, and caught the musical bug at a very early age. The youngster began teaching himself how to play numerous musical instruments, including the guitar, piano, drums and the trumpet, and was entering singing competitions at the age of twelve. Although he has contact with his father, Bieber was raised solely by his mother, Pattie Mallette, who was so proud of her son’s performances that she began uploading video recordings onto Youtube. Enthused by the reaction she received from friends and family, Mallette continued posting videos of the young star, and gradually Bieber built up an online fan base.
It was then that Scooter Braun, a US music manager, clicked on one of Bieber’s videos by mistake. Impressed with what he saw, Braun tracked down Pattie Mallette in 2008, and offered to fly Bieber to Atlanta, Georgia, to record a demo tape. After consulting her church elders, Mallette gave Braun the go-ahead, and off Bieber went. A week later, the youngster was singing in front of Usher, and had Justin Timberlake bidding for his signature. When talent like that is interested in you, superstar status is usually just around the corner, and that was certainly the case with Justin Bieber. After moving to Atlanta with his mother, Bieber set to work in the studio with Braun as his manager. Only a year after being discovered on the internet, debut single ‘One Time’ was released in summer 2009, and Justin Bieber’s talent was unveiled to the world. Following massive success with numerous singles and his debut record, Bieber is currently hard at work on a second album, and will be packing out US theatres on the ‘My World Tour’ until December 2010.
